Seven decades of Dutch maritime mastery. From a small workshop in Opperdoes to one of the world's most respected superyacht shipyards.
The story of Jongert is not merely the story of a shipyard. It is the story of a family, a craft, and an unbroken commitment to building the finest vessels the world has ever seen.
1953
The Beginning
In 1953, the Jongert family founded their boatyard in Opperdoes, a small village in North Holland. What began as a modest workshop building traditional Dutch sailing vessels would grow into one of the most respected names in superyacht construction. From the very beginning, the Jongert philosophy was clear: build every vessel as if it were your own. This unwavering commitment to quality over quantity would become the foundation of everything that followed.
1960s
Innovation & Growth
During the 1960s, Jongert became one of the first European yards to embrace aluminium construction for sailing yachts. This bold move combined the strength and durability of metal with significantly reduced weight, creating vessels that were both powerful and elegant. The yard relocated to larger facilities in Medemblik, where the growing team could accommodate increasingly ambitious projects. Each yacht that left the yard carried the Jongert signature: impeccable construction, innovative engineering, and timeless design.
1975–1987
The Golden Era
The late 1970s and 1980s marked Jongert's ascent to the pinnacle of superyacht building. The yard produced a series of landmark vessels that won international acclaim, including multiple Superyacht of the Year awards. Collaborations with renowned naval architects like Sparkman & Stephens and Andrea Vallicelli produced designs that pushed the boundaries of what was possible in sailing yacht construction. The Jongert name became synonymous with the very best.
1992–2001
Expanding Horizons
In the 1990s, Jongert expanded into motor yacht construction, applying the same uncompromising standards that had made their sailing yachts legendary. The yard moved to state-of-the-art facilities in Wieringerwerf, with direct deepwater access. The new facility featured covered building halls capable of accommodating yachts up to 70 metres, along with advanced paint facilities and engineering workshops. Jongert was now equipped to build the largest and most complex superyachts in the world.
2002–Present
